It started with a class party at her pre-school on the last day of school. Nothing get kids more excited than cupcakes with 3 inches of sugary frosting on top. Mmmmm.
That weekend I decided to throw her a friends party. We invited a few friends from church, and had an early morning Pancake Breakfast Party. Just sos ya knows, if you should ever do this for a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds, it takes a lot of adult power to pull it off. Four and five year olds need their pancakes buttered....and syruped.....and cut....and milk poured. Then they want more. It was fun though, and we were able to make lots of fun shapes for them. After a delicious breakfast we played some games and popped lots of balloons. Then it was time for presents and cake!!!

Maryn insisted on a butterfly theme this year. I found this great idea for butterfly cupcakes online. I improved on it a little and used chocolate covered pretzels in pink and blue, and I thought they turned out pretty cute.
The birthday girl makin' a wish:
To continue a Roundy family tradition (started way back last year on Maryn's birthday), the "Birthday Elves" snuck into her room the night before her birthday and decorated it while she slept. Nothing makes a five year old more excited about her big day than waking up to balloons and streamers.
That night, for FHE, we had our (nice, quiet) family party. We sang, opened presents and ate leftover cake. And by "ate" I mean the girls just licked the frosting off of their slice and called it good. Apparently we don't really like cake 'round here.

Maryn's one wish this year was for a butterfly stuffed animal (again with the butterfly theme).
We have now entered with electronic stage with the kiddy versions of MP3 players....
....and cameras.
Both have been well loved and used. Maryn has enjoyed having things like mom and dad, and mom and dad have enjoyed not having Maryn use theirs. Win-Win-Win. Overall, it was a rather successful birthday. It's hard to believe my little girl is already five, and I can't wait to see what the next five years brings us!

happy birthday maryn!!! looks like a fun day. the cupcakes are adorable. i'll have to keep those in mind...who knows what alexa will choose as her theme this year...she's already said she wants another princess party, a strawberry shortcake party, who knows what else will come about before november!
