I Should Get a Life...
Here are a few of the billion projects I have engrossed myself in lately. Since I haven't made a hoard friends to go to the park with almost every day (sigh. Guys, I miss you.), I've come up with a bunch of things to keep my brain from going into stay-at-home-mom-meltdown.
I decided to change up most of the color schemes in my house. I've had a green/yellow kitchen and family room since we've been married, so it was time. I found some pretty fabric at Joann's, and decided to go with blue and brown. Yes, it's trendy, and I'm sure that in 20 years I'll loath that I used the color brown, but I had to pick something. Besides, it's not like I'm picking out a washer and dryer set in chocolate brown....[now I am reminiscing about the harvest gold washer/dryer we had]
Anyhooo, here's the set of pillows I made. I love this one, it's my favorite:
Don't mind the chair it's setting on. I bought a set of them on craigs list, and I also have plans to recover the cushions. Isn't my pillow great? I love it! Thanks to my mom, I even learned how to put piping around the outside! (which actually, isn't that hard...I've gone piping crazy since then.) As a bonus, I put a zipper on the back, so I can wash it if I need to.
These were a bit tricky. I found the tutorial here. It looks much better in the picture than it actually is in real life. The binding on the bottom is really hard to put on. Oh, if you ever need a tutorial on how to sew on bias tape, here's a great one, by The Angry Chicken. And, if you don't need to know how to sew on bias tape, watch it anyway, 'cause it's a little entertaining.
While I was out visiting my family, I saw a really cute scripture bag, that my sister had bought from someone in her ward who makes them. Being the frugal, DIY-er, copycat that I am, I took the measurements from her bag, and made my own:
I'm not sure who's dirty, stained (that's a bit of blood from where I....oh, I mean SOMEONE, pricked themselves with a sewing pin, on the right) ironing board cover this is, but they really should wash it. It's not quite as professional looking as my sister's was, but it'll do. Now, I have another cute bag to take to church. Can you spot the piping??

Anyhooo, here's the set of pillows I made. I love this one, it's my favorite:
Next up is my solid blue pillow:
The material it is setting on, is the material I plan on recovering my chairs with. I haven't felt brave enough to tackle it, yet. Do note the use of piping on this pillow, also. So easy! I also made some pillows that can be used to lay on [Kade], but I don't like them, so I'm going to redo them.
I've searched high and low for oven mitts in the right color of blue or brown, but haven't stumbled upon them, so, I made my own oven mitts. And some cookies.

I have a ton of other projects lined up. I promise, I have made friends here, I'm not trying to be antisocial or anything. The people at Hobby Lobby and Joann's may know me my name by now...or at least by credit card. Do they count as friends????

Gettin' an Education
The bad part, is that school begins pretty early in the morning (I am not a natural early riser), but it gets us up and out of the house, so I feel like I have a lot more day to accomplish things in....and one less kid to do that with!
Maryn is a smart little girl, and loves to learn. Kade has been working with her, teaching her how to read. She has picked it up amazingly fast, and likes to find words all around her to sound out.
This is one of the pictures she drew in class the other day. It is a picture of "Daddy dancing," she told us. Then there was an explanation of why he didn't need hair. I think it's great.
