The Craftiness of Em

Well, here it is...that part of pregnancy that makes me go bazerk and clean, clean, clean, organize, organize, organize, and craft, craft, craft. I believe they call it "nesting." I am in fact building a nest. With Maryn, my major project was making curtains for the bay window in our family room (you can view two of them in our current front room) and of course purchasing loads and loads of baby stuff. Now that I have all the baby "stuff" I need for this next one, I have lots of time on my hands. My task is to clean out the room for the baby and find someplace else to relocate my scrapbooking stuff to. I tackled part of the closet today and I felt pretty good about it.
A few weeks ago, I decided to actually make decor for Maryn's room. I kinda stole the basic idea from my sister in law, Allison, then altered it (a lot) for a little girl. Here are the originals she did with trees.

I did flowers in pinks and yellows for Maryn. And I added buttons for the center of the flowers.

Here is the big picture. I think it's an 11"x16". I just used muslin for the background, then cut out each piece. Then I used stitch-witchery to keep things in place while I did some hand stitching around the edges of the petals and for detail on the leaves. You can't see that well from the photograph.
Next I made three 8"x8" pictures with individual flowers. I did the same things here with the button centers and stitching around the edges and for details.

This last flower was the hardest, but my favorite. It's like the far left flower in the big picture, just different material. I tore strips of material and twisted it, then stitched it down into a swirl pattern. It's hard to see the detail from the picture, but I thought it added a lot of dimension.

It's probably a little goofy, but I needed something to fill up the wall space in Maryn's room. It was always so barren and boring. Now, I really like how it looks. It all just took me 9 months to finally decorate her room.

Score!

I went up to the Gap Outlet near Cincinnati yesterday with my friend Becca. I just had to brag about all the goodies I found there because I felt like I got a pretty good bargain. Clothes are my weakness. I buy too much, especially when they are on good deals.

My "loot." It's all maternity stuff. I was an ugly dresser during the first. I can't have that now.

In closing I'd like to take a moment to brag about the really really awesome deals I was able to find. Kade's t-shirts were only 99 cents each. All those pairs of maternity khakis you see up there were only $1.99 each. I'm not quite sure why I bought 7. And then Becca saved me an additional 20% on all my stuff. Awesome!

Snowman Update

Once there was a snowman, snowman, snowman.
Once there was a snowman tall, tall, tall.
In the sun he melted, melted, melted.
In the sun he melted small, small, small.

Ah, Kentucky. I love the weather here. And anyone who doesn't like it can just wait a few minutes, because it will surely change. Our snowman, Mr. Incredible (AKA "Dash" now), was the victim of warm weather on Sunday. We got home from church and Kade said he looked drunk because his face was beginning to melt and he couldn't even hold himself up straight. So, later that afternoon he gave the snowman some "spirits" (really just a brown paper bag...) and photographed the poor thing.
Little did we know that would be the last picture of our new friend.
We had invited our friends, the Wilkes', over for dinner that evening. When we answered the door, they swore up and down that his head "fell" off just as they drove into our driveway. Coincidence??? Hmmmm...I have my suspicions.

Winter Wonderland

Oh, the weather outside was frightful. It started snowing at about 8:00 in the morning yesterday and flurried/snowed until about 1:00 this afternoon. It's a good thing it's the weekend, or else they would have had to shut down the city of Louisville I'm sure. Heh, heh. Don't get too excited, our little winter weather doesn't much rival that of Idaho's, but we got quite a bit of snow. When Kade was shoveling the driveway (for the second time) this morning, he could have sworn it was at least 2 feet, but in reality, it was pretty close to a foot.

After the snow let up, the sun decided to smile upon us and we thought we'd better take our chance to make a snowman before it melted. Maryn just wanted to go back inside because the snow was too deep to walk in, Kade did all the heavy lifting, and I was on accessory duty. We made a pretty cute snowman. Maryn lovingly named him "Mr. Incredible."

It's A...

Yes, I have plastered a picture of my uterus on our blog. I hope I haven't grossed anyone out, but I figured, ya seen one, ya seen 'em all, right?

This is our child. I must say, the highlight of being pregnant is seeing that your baby is for reals and that all the aches and pains and hunger and weight gain aren't for naught. And also it's comforting to know you have produced a healthy offspring.

So, Can you guess what it is? Well, I'll give you some hints:

-It's either a girl or a boy, and not a puppy.

-She doesn't crave chocolate like Maryn did.

-This pregnancy has been very different.

-I haven't become more or less hairy with this one (though I don't think it is humanly possible to become more hairier than I am).

If you didn't figure it out by that big old hint you just read, I'll spell it out for you plainly.

It's a girl!

Yes, I was wrong again! I am 0/2. Someday I might get it right. Maybe not, though. Now we just have to convince Maryn that this baby is a girl. Every time we tell her she yells back at us, "No, I'M a girl!"
